Tewkesbury was the site of a bitterly fought battle during the Wars of the Roses. It is noted for its splendid ABBEY and charming black and white Tudor architecture, with little lanes ( or "Alleys") running down between the shops. It is a riverside town at the confluence of the Rivers Severn & Avon. There are boat trips to other riverside towns like Upton-upon-Severn There are many Restaurants & Tea Shops and Pubs within walking distance of The Alum House.
The Severn Way, a long distance footpath, runs through here.
“CASCADES" (01684 293740) is Tewkesbury’s Swimming Pool and Health Suite Complex. As well as “family fun” times with water slide, waterfalls etc, there are “quieter sessions for the serious swimmer. The early morning “Gym and Swim” is very popular and cheap! FindCascades in the OLDBURY ROAD car park (circled).
Tewkesbury Market has been held twice a week for many centuries. Today, it can be found in the OLDBURY ROAD car park every Wednesday and Saturday. Good for fresh fruit & Veg
The local Steam Railway, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway runs from Toddington (10 miles East of Tewkesbury) to Cheltenham Race Course. A great day out!
